Go For Gold?
“How tragic.” Maddie mumbled.
We had found ourselves in my great-grandmother’s attic, a place I used to be frightened of as a girl. But now, armed with my brother’s brave wife and nostalgic courage, Maddie and I decided to take a look.
We had been sorting through boxes stacked on each other and old photographs and letters, and we stumbled upon a large, ornate chest shadowed in the corner. Its eerie demeanor demanded us to open and investigate, to which we were very obedient.
Digging through my late great-grandmother’s jewelry and keepsakes you would not believe how appalling her taste was. Believe me, I am open minded and always interested in unique styles, but my Grammie’s obsession with 18K, wildly realistic, bug brooches was just concerning.
“What on earth?” Maddie exclaimed, her face mutilated by astonishment as she examined the entomological habitat that filled the chest.
As we sifted through Grammie’s bugs we came upon a small, worn notebook documenting all her bugs’ journeys. Their species and kingdom, she had every detail about every bug documented. At this moment the absurdity of our discovery set in. What were we going to do with all of these bugs?
Years have passed, and I had forgiven my Grammie for leaving me nothing stylish or even remotely cute and had nearly forgotten about our misfortune until just today when Susan announced our upcoming “Gold Rush” event that starts July 15th. In a twist of events, I was now really wishing I had that treasured box of creepy golden bugs.
